Building a Strong Neighborhood Together

New short video for community safety forum

This shorter video was made to show during our community safety forum on February 1, 2011. You can watch a more detailed video also. Please consider sending one person from your household to this very important community safety forum. The only way we will get results in our neighborhood is to work as a team and develop a unified voice together. Let’s flex some neighborhood muscle and boost safety in our community.

Community Safety Forum
When? Tuesday, February 1, 2011 7-8:30pm

Where? City Hall 2729 Prospect Park Hill Drive Rancho Cordova

Who? You, your friends. Anyone local.

Why? We need to make some safety decisions and talk about how to fight crime in our community. The only way we’ll see change is for us to make that happen together. Mills Park Drive: Community Safety Forum

Weed & Seed and the Cordova Towne Neighborhood Association are hosting a Community Safety Forum on Tuesday, February 1, 2011 from 7-8:30pm at Rancho Cordova City Hall. The goal of this resident-led event is to get a pulse for what the community really wants to do about the large brick pillars on Mills Park Drive. What are the options for increasing safety at this location? Additionally, what does it look like to boost safety in the White Rock area? What can happen from this day forward to help stop crime and create a better and stronger community?

We encourage residents throughout Rancho Cordova to come to this event, show your support, and bring your opinion. Please note we are specifically gearing this meeting to be about discussion and solutions. This will not be an anger-fest. We are all feeling frustrated and angry about the recent murder, but we need solutions here, so we’re committed to constructive discussion together. Representatives from both Rancho Cordova City Hall and Rancho Cordova Police Department will be in attendance also.

If you are able, please RSVP on our Facebook page. Thanks.

Residents get the “Cordova Towne” letters done!!!

A group of residents got together today to cut out new wooden letters that say “Cordova Towne”. The old letters on the northern corner of Croydon & Mather Field Road have been looking very unpolished in light of their age, so it was time to spruce things up a bit. Nice job Orv, Rich, Brandon & Ryan. With a little intention, we can get a lot done in a community. We all benefit in the neighborhood when people step forward to use their abilities and give a few minutes here and there.

If you’d like to help prime, paint or hang the letters, speak on. We’ll be doing this in the next two weeks and we’re looking for volunteers. See you at the installation party on September 25 at 10:30am.

Painting & Planting Success on Mather Field Road

We had a fantastic time of painting and planting today. Thank you to Leadership Rancho Cordova Class of 2010 and all the dedicated residents who came out to support this wonderful project. The corner planters are looking great and the wall is prepped to be completed this next week. As you may notice, the color is much lighter. What do you think of that? This color may end up serving as a primer or the color may be changed if the color doesn’t work (after viewing it when the corners are cut in). We shall see over this next week. Your opinion counts, so please let us know what you think via email or the e-Group.

Thank you again everyone for your commitment to our neighborhood. Thank you also to City Council candidate Wayne Hart for painting with us today.

Ground has been broken at White Rock Park!!! Yes, the park renovation is moving forward!!!

Today ground was broken on White Rock Park. The park will be closed through May 2011 and will be transformed into a vibrant community hub. We have been waiting for many years for this to happen and it is finally here!!! It was great to see residents come out and support this groundbreaking. Residents ought to feel very proud for not only seeing results with the groundbreaking, but with how they handled themselves over so many meetings during the past several years. We made it a deliberate point to strike a cordial and cooperative spirit with CRPD, and that went a long way to help the intricate renovation process.

This is a very special day. Great work everyone!!! Let’s celebrate!!!

Residents Clark, Ryan & Orv were honored to dig with golden shovels next to Councilmember Robert McGarvey, Supervisor Dan Nottoli, CRPD CEO David Edmunds, Inez Reyes & Rick Sloan (CRPD Board Members) and several others.
