New Sign on Mills Park Drive / Opportunities
We have great news!! City Hall has given us the green flag to move ahead with our plans for the sign. A few days ago they approved the design that Ainor Signs graciously donated to us.

What happens now? If all goes well, we’ll hope to install the sign in mid-November to early December. Before that though, we do need some help with several things. Here are four ways to get involved. Don’t be shy. This project will ONLY happen if we get the following things done:
1) Pass out flyers: We need a group of people to canvas the neighborhood to pass out flyers in the neighborhood. We may do two rounds depending on what we need to communicate.
2) Plan the celebration: We need help planning a party to officially welcome the new sign (we’ll invite media too). It would be great to have one resident volunteer to help be the planner and then others volunteer to help with logistics. This is not a major block party or huge undertaking, but rather something low-key and connective to sip on drinks and eat a bit. If nobody steps forward, we’ll axe the idea.
3) Fence installation crew: We need a few more residents to help install a new fence on the property behind where the sign will go. Thank you to those who have volunteered already. This will be the backdrop to the sign.
4) Clean-up help: We need a handful of residents to help clean up the general area surrounding the sign. There is quite a bit of debris. It would be ideal to have 5 people volunteer.
Thank you for your support. Let’s keep moving forward. Please join the eGroup if you live in the neighborhood. We need residents to talk with each other, report crime and stand strong together.

Vote on the two-phase plan for Mills Park Drive
We are asking all residents throughout the White Rock area of Rancho Cordova to vote on what to do about the eastern pillar on Mills Park Drive. Additionally, we would like to get input from any locals in Rancho Cordova too. A Mills Park Drive committee has formed as a result of the Community Safety Forum a couple weeks ago. Our committee has adopted a tremendous two-phase plan that we’re submitting to you for approval. Vote “yes” or “no” on the right side of sidebar (on the White Rock website) after watching the video below (or HERE).
Questions? Call Ryan at 916.595.3735 or Linda at 916.206.6539.

Don’t you think it was time for new letters?
This project is coming along for the neighborhood. We’ve been working hard on new letters. In the past few weeks the letters were cut, sanded, primed, painted, and now they’re being hung. The video shows how obvious the current letters have been decayed. They are practically falling apart. It’s a nice thing we have great residents in the neighborhood to take care of this main entrance. Thank you to Brandon, Rich, Orv, Sarah, and Ryan for their work. Others are welcome to pitch in because we’ll need to do some putty work and then re-painting once they are completely hung.

Residents get the “Cordova Towne” letters done!!!
A group of residents got together today to cut out new wooden letters that say “Cordova Towne”. The old letters on the northern corner of Croydon & Mather Field Road have been looking very unpolished in light of their age, so it was time to spruce things up a bit. Nice job Orv, Rich, Brandon & Ryan. With a little intention, we can get a lot done in a community. We all benefit in the neighborhood when people step forward to use their abilities and give a few minutes here and there.
If you’d like to help prime, paint or hang the letters, speak on. We’ll be doing this in the next two weeks and we’re looking for volunteers. See you at the installation party on September 25 at 10:30am.

Replacing Ugly Letters with Perfect New Ones

We are very thankful for the Rancho Cordova Weed & Seed program helping us financially to replace the dilapidated “Cordova Towne” letters on the northern corner of Croydon Way & Mather Field Road. The southern corner was updated about 2.5 years ago by an all-star resident named David off of Portsmouth, and it’s long overdue for the northern corner to match the southern one. With that being said, today Brandon and I (Ryan) went to Lowes to buy all the supplies we’ll need (thanks to funds from Weed & Seed). We’ll be looking for 2-3 other residents to bring their jig-saw skills in early September on a date TBA to cut out the letters. We’ll also need some residents to do painting. And then we’ll all celebrate by having an installation party at some point in later September. Details will be coming soon.
Remember too on Saturday August 21, 2010 8-12pm we will be painting the wall along Mather Field Road and putting fresh plants in the planters. We do still need some suggestions on what types of plants will be best in those planters.

Update: Wall Project on Mather Field Road
On Saturday, August 21st from 8-12pm we will get together as a neighborhood and paint the wall and plant new plants in the planter boxes on Croydon & Mather. We invite you to come out with us for however much of the time you’d like. Additionally, we’ll put a new fixed “T” up in the “Cordova Towne” lettering (only if someone steps forward to do make a new “T” – money can be provided). New paint will really help the wall look nice. We may only be doing a portion of the painting (taping and cutting along the edges of the brick pillars), but we’ll know more soon about that.

Please mark this date in your calendars. All ages are invited to come out to paritcipate. Also, if you have a green thumb and can give input on what type of plants to put in the planter boxes, we need serious help with that. Details will unfold soon. Let us know if you can make it through the “contact” page. Thanks.
Lastly, way to go Leadership Rancho Cordova!!! Thank you for spear-heading this project.
