Painting & Planting Success on Mather Field Road
We had a fantastic time of painting and planting today. Thank you to Leadership Rancho Cordova Class of 2010 and all the dedicated residents who came out to support this wonderful project. The corner planters are looking great and the wall is prepped to be completed this next week. As you may notice, the color is much lighter. What do you think of that? This color may end up serving as a primer or the color may be changed if the color doesn’t work (after viewing it when the corners are cut in). We shall see over this next week. Your opinion counts, so please let us know what you think via email or the e-Group.
Thank you again everyone for your commitment to our neighborhood. Thank you also to City Council candidate Wayne Hart for painting with us today.
{ Leave a comment }What is your role in the neighborhood?
Everyone gets to play when it comes to helping a neighborhood improve. We all have a part on the team and each player has different abilities, skills, and passions. What is your passion? How can you apply your unique abilities and desires to help add value and improve the community? We’re not talking about giving huge sums of time either. We are all busy. Just think practically what it might look like to offer your two cents for the n’hood. You are unique and you can make a difference in the community simply by being friendly, available relationally to people near you, and helping out here and there.
Case-in-point. Meet an all-star resident named Jen. She gave two hours tonight to help pick out the right plants for tomorrow’s beautification shindig. Not everyone has a green thumb, but because she does, she was able to step forward and provide for all of us in this practical way. She really went out of her way though because she measured planters, took photos, and really brought her knowledge and organizational abilities to the table for us.
Good job Jen, and great job in advance to everyone who makes it out tomorrow.

Get your new neighborhood sticker!!!
The brand new neighborhood stickers are hot off the press. They just arrived in the mail today. Where will you stick yours? They’re perfect for the mailbox, car windows, binders, books, and who knows where else. Got ideas? Let’s stick ‘em where we can to show our pride for where we live. Contact us through the website if you’d like one.

Ground has been broken at White Rock Park!!! Yes, the park renovation is moving forward!!!
Today ground was broken on White Rock Park. The park will be closed through May 2011 and will be transformed into a vibrant community hub. We have been waiting for many years for this to happen and it is finally here!!! It was great to see residents come out and support this groundbreaking. Residents ought to feel very proud for not only seeing results with the groundbreaking, but with how they handled themselves over so many meetings during the past several years. We made it a deliberate point to strike a cordial and cooperative spirit with CRPD, and that went a long way to help the intricate renovation process.
This is a very special day. Great work everyone!!! Let’s celebrate!!!
Residents Clark, Ryan & Orv were honored to dig with golden shovels next to Councilmember Robert McGarvey, Supervisor Dan Nottoli, CRPD CEO David Edmunds, Inez Reyes & Rick Sloan (CRPD Board Members) and several others.

White Rock Park Ground-breaking Ceremony!!!
This is huge news for our neighborhood. We have waited so long for this day and it is finally here. Congratulations residents and Rancho Cordovans. Thank you to so many residents who have attended meetings in the past couple of years and have been a part of our cordially direct effort to communicate our desires to the Park District. If you can make it, please plan to attend the ground-breaking ceremony for White Rock Park on August 20, 2010 at 10:30 am. See the image below for details. This is fantastic news!!!

Cordova Towne Sticker Preview
We have a ton of neighborhood stickers coming our way. They’ll be perfect to put on a mailbox, bumper, folder, trapper-keeper (do they still have those?) or window even. Here is a preview. Please note this image is pixelated because it was shrunk from a larger size. The final sticker will look something like this, but the font edges will be very clean.

If you are a resident and you want one, just let us know. We should have the stickers by August 21, 2010 during our next neighborhood event (painting on the Mather Field wall / replanting planters). Also, take a picture of where you put yours and we’ll put it up on our website.
{ Leave a comment }Replacing Ugly Letters with Perfect New Ones

We are very thankful for the Rancho Cordova Weed & Seed program helping us financially to replace the dilapidated “Cordova Towne” letters on the northern corner of Croydon Way & Mather Field Road. The southern corner was updated about 2.5 years ago by an all-star resident named David off of Portsmouth, and it’s long overdue for the northern corner to match the southern one. With that being said, today Brandon and I (Ryan) went to Lowes to buy all the supplies we’ll need (thanks to funds from Weed & Seed). We’ll be looking for 2-3 other residents to bring their jig-saw skills in early September on a date TBA to cut out the letters. We’ll also need some residents to do painting. And then we’ll all celebrate by having an installation party at some point in later September. Details will be coming soon.
Remember too on Saturday August 21, 2010 8-12pm we will be painting the wall along Mather Field Road and putting fresh plants in the planters. We do still need some suggestions on what types of plants will be best in those planters.
{ Leave a comment }Announcement: New Magnets & Business Cards
Check it out. We just ordered new neighborhood business cards and magnets. We pass this stuff out at events and it’s helpful to have for you to pass out to new residents too. The magnets are perfect for the fridge because it’s always a reminder to check out our website and that we are a team in our neighborhood. Together we can get things done. We believe in the present and future of this neighborhood.
Anyway, the magnets and cards will arrive in the next two weeks, so be on the lookout. What do you think of the look?
