Building a Strong Neighborhood Together

RIP Rajneet Kaur Singh, a neighborhood resident

We are very sad to hear of the murder of Rajneet Kaur Singh, a White Rock area resident. May she rest in peace. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family, friends, and neighbors. As time unfolds, our hope is to be able to open up conversation about how we can come together as a community to stop crime like this. It’s an outrage and a very sad and difficult situation.

White Rock Park Renovation Update

Ground broke at White Rock Park on August 20, 2010, and it looks like the Cordova Recreation and Park District has been busy getting things done. As you can see in the cell phone video below, the community center is being framed, asphalt has been laid for the parking lot, various areas are roped off for development, and there are portions of new concrete sidewalks installed.

Don’t you think it was time for new letters?

This project is coming along for the neighborhood. We’ve been working hard on new letters. In the past few weeks the letters were cut, sanded, primed, painted, and now they’re being hung. The video shows how obvious the current letters have been decayed. They are practically falling apart. It’s a nice thing we have great residents in the neighborhood to take care of this main entrance. Thank you to Brandon, Rich, Orv, Sarah, and Ryan for their work. Others are welcome to pitch in because we’ll need to do some putty work and then re-painting once they are completely hung.

Residents get the “Cordova Towne” letters done!!!

A group of residents got together today to cut out new wooden letters that say “Cordova Towne”. The old letters on the northern corner of Croydon & Mather Field Road have been looking very unpolished in light of their age, so it was time to spruce things up a bit. Nice job Orv, Rich, Brandon & Ryan. With a little intention, we can get a lot done in a community. We all benefit in the neighborhood when people step forward to use their abilities and give a few minutes here and there.

If you’d like to help prime, paint or hang the letters, speak on. We’ll be doing this in the next two weeks and we’re looking for volunteers. See you at the installation party on September 25 at 10:30am.

The evolution of our wall along Mather Field Road

What do you think? Do you remember in 2007 when our neighborhood painted this wall? Wasn’t the gray cinder block really ugly before we painted? And now the wall has been really spruced up by Leadership Rancho Cordova Class of 2010 (along with residents). Thank you Leadership Class for all of your hard work. We really benefited from your leadership in our community. Thank you for choosing such a visible and important wall to not only our neighborhood, but all of Rancho Cordova. What a tremendous project for everyone and it’s just in time for the California Capital Airshow too.

Pick a color for the wall on Mather Field Road

The time has come for us to vote on a wall color for the cinder block wall along Mather Field Road. Please let us know what you think of the attached photo. Your two cents matters greatly. There are three small squares painted on the wall right now and the attached photo captures the colors fairly well. Two of the colors are very light and one is dark, so let’s bat this around. Leadership Rancho Cordova has already stated they are very happy to come up with a medium color (maybe something darker than what is currently up right now, but lighter than the original “sound wall brown” color that has been up for two years).

What do you think?
p.s. Thank you to residents who worked so hard on this wall to prepare it for a final coat of paint. We originally planned to have our paint be the final coat, but then the color turned out to be very light.
