Mather Field Tile Project Meeting
Next week on Wednesday March 17th, 2010 at 6:30pm, come meet in the American River North room at City Hall to discuss an exciting tile project for our neighborhood. The Rancho Cordova Leadership Class has selected our neighborhood for a community beautification project, and they’re reaching out to us to get something great done in our neighborhood. This project will take place near Croydon & Mather Field Road and should be fantasticfor the look of our neighborhood as well as any passersby in Rancho Cordova.
In a nuthshell, Rancho Cordova Leadership will present ideas for a tile or mural project to us, and so we need to pitch in our thoughts as well as talk about how to pull this off. The Leadership Class is looking for our input, ideas as well as hands-on assistance. If we all put in just a bit of effort (not much), we’ll be able to sincerely beautify this entrance corner to the subdivision.
A few years ago we painted the wall along Mather Field Road and this was a roaring success for our community and Rancho Cordova. Let’s take things to the next level now and do something special in our neighborhood and for our community.
Please consider sending someone from your household to this very important meeting if you are able. Your opinion and ideas count. Contact Stephanie DeShon of Rancho Cordova Leadership at 916-875-9627 or you can contact us through the website (click “contact”).
By the way, if it’s been a while since you’ve seen this video, give it a quick watch. Let’s remember the great things that have happened, are happening and will happen in our neighborhood.

Here is a new audio post. As we consider goals for the new year, let’s consider being intentional about being good neighbors in very practical and simple ways. Our neighborhood has seen some great things in years past. Let’s keep it that way in the future!!! Life is better when we get to share the journey with people around us – even neighbors. Let me know if you have tips to add to the list.

Hey Everyone I just wanted to share a great experience I just had with one of our neighborhood businesses.
I don’t know if you’ve heard of Max Bounce House or not, they have provided a bounce house at some of our past neighborhood events. My daughter’s first birthday party was this weekend and being that she was only turning one I didn’t want to waste money on a venue when she wasn’t going to remember it anyway. But we were having some older children there who would need to have something fun to do. I remembered that there was a bounce house company in the neighborhood, so I contacted Ryan, as he knows everyone and he provided me with their contact info.
I contacted Misty Spaeth and her brother Matt over a month before the event and she answered all my questions very quickly. I told her I was concerned about the weather as the party was in late February and Misty was very accommodating let me know that could accept booking up to a day prior to the event as long as they weren’t already booked. Of course the week of the party we had perfect weather, but the forecast indicated a chance of rain over the weekend and I literally waited until the last minute and Misty and Matt couldn’t have been more helpful! They came 10 minutes prior to the party to set up and go over the rules and came and took down the bounce house when the party was over as well as gave me a GREAT price!
I would definitely recommend them to anyone looking to rent a bounce house and I will be using them again in the future! Thanks again Max Bounce House!

Have you heard of Rancho Cordova Mayor Ken Cooley’s “20 Tons in 2010″ campaign? Have a look below at information from www.20tonsin2010.com.
Rancho Cordova has launched a program intended to promote a healthier community by building awareness for those who live, work, play, or pray here. You are encouraged to join our commitment to get healthy, stay fit and have fun!
If one of YOUR goals for 2010 is to lose weight and/or get fit, then you are NOT alone. What’s more, you are about to be joined by what could amount to be the ENTIRE CITY of Rancho Cordova. On February 1, 2010, Mayor Ken Cooley announced a program to lead the City on a quest to lose 20 Tons in 2010.
So here’s the Challenge:
-
For individuals who live, work, play, or pray in Rancho Cordova to lose 10 pounds in 10 months (February thru November 2010)
-
For the Rancho Cordova community as a whole to lose a combined total of 20 tons in 2010. That’s a minimum of 4000 people losing 10 pounds in a city of over 50,000 people!
We need YOUR HELP to achieve this goal!
The WINS for YOU are:
-
You will be 10 pounds lighter and that much HEALTHIER. NOTE: we are not limiting you to 10 pounds. There will be prizes for the “biggest losers”!
-
You will be eligible for monthly PRIZES donated by local businesses. ALL registered participants are entered each month and you don’t even have to LOSE to WIN!
-
You will be part of a city-wide effort to get fit and HAVE FUN! There will be events, giveaways, incentives, and some fabulous prizes. (Worth repeating!)
Register HERE to be a part of the health challenge. All information above minus the first paragraph was taken verbatim from the 20 Tons in 2010 website.

A handful of residents gathered this morning to do something about graffiti in our neighborhood. We drank coffee and enjoyed forty minutes of conversation. The end result is a small team of residents on a rotating schedule for removing graffiti right away. Way to go!!!
We do need some more residents to jump on board. This is about beautification and community pride, and being on the rotation would essentially mean you’d probably cover one tag per month. Please consider joining us and donating 15 minutes or so per month. All ages are welcome.
A special thank you to Code Enforcement Officer Cindy Borba for coming to our meeting as well as purchasing five paint buckets for us out of her own money. We feel your support Cindy.

Hey Everyone, I wanted to share a fun upcoming event with you. My boss is the director of The Veggie Chase 5K and Kids Runs and the 2010 event is slowly creeping closer. The last event was in October of 2008 and it was a HUGE hit! We had over 2,000 kids come out to participate. Myself, my husband and my parents were all there to volunteer to make the event great. (Check out the attached picture of Rich as Garlic!)
This year’s event is going to be on May 23rd at Hagen Park. There are events for kids that are just learning to walk and up. There is also a 5K for kids and adults. The fee is only $5 for kids 12 and under (and that includes a T-Shirt). There will be adults dressed up like Veggies for the kids to chase around in all the events.
We will have lots of great sponsors and contests (at 2008’s event I won a B.O.B. jogging stroller!) Soil Born Farm is the beneficiary and this event will be coinciding with Soil Born’s “Day on the Farm”.
Not only is this a great event for kids, but it’s also a great event for our community. If you don’t have plans on Saturday May 23rd, please register and come out and support not only the event, but our community.

Does it bother you that tagging has increased lately along the wall on Mather Field Road and other areas in the neighborhood? Let’s do something about this.
On Saturday February 20, 2010 at 10am we will meet at 10267 Croydon Way to share ideas for how we can best organize ourselves to solve this problem. We are all about putting in minimal effort to achieve maximum results. Our idea is to see 10-15 residents on a rotating schedule to cover graffiti as soon as possible after it occurs. This means you’d likely cover a tag once every month or two. Would you be willing to do that to help our neighborhood look great? We can’t solve this issue without teamwork.
Coffee will be provided. We’ll only meet for 30 minutes or so.
Let’s take charge to protect our neighborhood. This is our turf. Call 916-595-3735 with questions and fill out the form below if you plan to attend, would be willing to be one person on the rotating schedule, or have any questions or comments.

{ Leave a comment }Welcome to our New Website Design
Hi Everyone. It was time for a website re-design, so here it is. We hope this new design will be useful for us and the community. There are still some things that need to be fine-tuned, but that’ll happen over time.
The big reason in switching our design from HTML to WordPress is that now many residents can easily update the site as well as become neighborhood bloggers. Additionally, it makes design and publishing a whole lot easier.
You’ll see below that all old blog posts (137) were imported to the new website. Our old blog had not been updated in quite some time, basically because the e-Group took over as our main communication tool. Now we will start to use the ”blog” portion of this site again to convey news, upcoming events, and whatever we’d like to report to the neighborhood or community.
You can get blog posts by email or subscribe by RSS.
Go Cordova Towne!!!
