Building a Strong Neighborhood Together

Recap of the Community Safety Forum

Thank you to the 80-100 residents who came out to the Community Safety Forum on Tuesday. We had very civil and productive discussion. Overall the consensus was that the eastern brick pillar needs to come down quickly because it is a safety risk. Some residents feel a connection to the pillar as a point of historical reference, but the vast majority said the pillar very clearly needs to be removed. The one item that residents really debated on was whether or not a new sign has to go up in its place. Opinions were mixed on this point.

We will continue discussion about the eastern pillar as well as the western pillar (on the Carriage House parcel). There are many issues to kick around and really decide on as a community. Please continue to be a part of the conversation and get others involved too. No matter what, we need maximum community participation in the safety solutions surrounding Mills Park Drive as well as general safety issues in the White Rock Area. That is the only way our neighborhood can continue to grow stronger.

We will be in contact with everyone who attended last night’s meeting as well as those who signed up to be a part of the Mills Park Drive Pillar Committee. We plan to be in touch with everyone at some point next week to talk about the next steps in this process and how we can move forward together. Please be ready and available in very practical ways to help get word out about this process.

Thank you again everyone!!

A special thank you to Rancho Cordova City Hall for providing us meeting space. In addition to so many residents, thank you to the following for their attendance: RCPD Chief Doug Diamond, RCPD Crime Prevention Specialist Heidi Escamilla, four RCPD POP Officers, Councilmember Linda Budge, and representatives from Dan Lungren & Alyson Huber’s offices. Thank you also to The Folsom Cordova Community Partnership for supplying snacks (and so much support as always).

If you would like to get involved, please call Ryan at 916.595.3735 or Linda at 916.601.6539.

Would you be willing to pass out flyers?

We are looking for some residents willing to pass out flyers to the community to help invite local White Rock residents to the Community Safety Forum. It’s so important that we gather and really voice our opinions on what needs to be done to improve safety in our neighborhood. If interested, you can pass out flyers on a particular street or area. Just let us know. Call 595-3735 or comment below.

Also, thank you to Mayor McGarvey who has provided funds for 1000 flyers to be printed for this event. We sincerely appreciate the Mayor’s quick response and availability of funds to do this.

Strong neighborhoods happen when we are a team. Let’s keep finding very practical and simple ways to grow together as a team for the sake of our neighborhood.

Community Safety Forum flyer is here

We would like to ask residents to please consider sending one person from your household to the Community Safety Forum on February 1, 2011 (7-8:30pm) at Rancho Cordova City Hall. We will discuss and hopefully decide on what needs to be done to increase safety with the entrance pillars on Mills Park Drive. Your voice really counts. We are a team in our neighborhood, and the only way we can accomplish things in our neighborhood is to work together. Let’s flex some neighborhood muscle and get this done. We will not put up with crime like this in our community!! Bottom line.

Additionally, if any residents would like to help pass out some flyers in the neighborhood, please let us know. You can get a printed flyer from us or you are welcome to download a flyer below and then print for a few neighbors.

Mills Park Drive: Community Safety Forum

Weed & Seed and the Cordova Towne Neighborhood Association are hosting a Community Safety Forum on Tuesday, February 1, 2011 from 7-8:30pm at Rancho Cordova City Hall. The goal of this resident-led event is to get a pulse for what the community really wants to do about the large brick pillars on Mills Park Drive. What are the options for increasing safety at this location? Additionally, what does it look like to boost safety in the White Rock area? What can happen from this day forward to help stop crime and create a better and stronger community?

We encourage residents throughout Rancho Cordova to come to this event, show your support, and bring your opinion. Please note we are specifically gearing this meeting to be about discussion and solutions. This will not be an anger-fest. We are all feeling frustrated and angry about the recent murder, but we need solutions here, so we’re committed to constructive discussion together. Representatives from both Rancho Cordova City Hall and Rancho Cordova Police Department will be in attendance also.

If you are able, please RSVP on our Facebook page. Thanks.

Who owns the entrance pillars on Mills Park Drive?

As our community discusses safety concerns on Mills Park Drive, it is important to understand ownership of the surrounding parcels so we can be well-informed and strategic about obtaining results to keep our residents safe.

There are two main entrance pillars on Mills Park Drive located on the corners of parcels “1” and “2” as labeled below. Parcel “1” contains the eastern entrance pillar (and only that pillar). This tiny parcel is 0.0033 acres and is actually privately owned by a couple that appears to live in Cameron Park. Rajneet Singh’s body was found behind the pillar located on Parcel “1”. Parcel “2” contains the western entrance pillar, and this large parcel is owned by an LLC who owns the apartment complex on that site. The LLC has had ownership since September 2010. Parcel “3” is owned by the County of Sacramento.

As conversation unfolds in coming days and weeks, let’s keep in mind we are dealing with separate owners. This information was compiled by Ryan Lundquist.

White Rock Park Progress: January 2011

Ground was broken for White Rock Park on August 20, 2010, and there has been some amazing progress thus far. This is a huge step forward for all of Rancho Cordova and the White Rock area in particular. The Cordova Recreation & Park Districtis gaining ground and construction looks like it is coming along smoothly. This video was uploaded from an Android phone (myTouch 4G) by Ryan Lundquist.
